History Repeating

Bermuda Shorts, oil on cradled panel, 12” x 12” x 1.5”

I love old photos and how they transport you to a time that has passed. I have a lot of family photos that I either have had for years or took home from my mom’s house after she passed and they are like a time machine to the past to me. This is especially true of the photos that happened before I was in the picture. I hope to paint a few of these for my own enjoyment in a loose impressionistic style through the years. This first painting, titled, Bermuda Shorts, is of my mother sitting on a bed on a trip to Bermuda (I think) with my father. I love how her pose is casual and classical at the same time and the funky lamp and rotary phone really brings the decade into focus.

Bermuda Shorts will be shown at the Artspace Member Showcase through November and December. I am not sure which photo I will paint next, but I am looking forward to bringing some of my personal history into a new colorful light. Learn more about Artspace.
